Reflection on Rejection

You look great, you feel great and you know that you are the best version of yourself that you could possibly be. Your ego has ballooned up so that it often doesn’t even fit through the front door…oh wait, maybe that’s just me. You are ready to take on the world and you know that you are going to make a big splash. But, what if instead of a making big splash, you turn out to be a big flop?

Rejection is something that everyone has to cope with, regardless of how talented or how fantastic one believes that they are. It is an unpleasant thought but the simple truth is that not everyone will appreciate your hard earned accomplishments. I have sent pictures to fitness magazines and supplement companies with the hopes of gaining some exposure in the fitness world and in turn I have received the polite “No, Thank you” response or simply no response at all.

Ok, so perhaps what I am attempting to accomplish in the fitness world is going to take some time and more effort and the fact that there is a lot of competition out there makes it that much more difficult to be recognised. But what about in the real world? I am different than most people and surely my uniqueness and accomplishments in fitness will make me desirable to those around me, right? Well the rejection monster exists in the real world too. Not every guy will want to date someone who has bigger biceps than them. Not every guy wants to be reminded that they don’t have as much drive as their girlfriend. Not every guy can handle a girl who is in charge of their own life. Well that sucks. You have the confidence and it is sky high and you feel that absolutely nothing could possibly change the way you feel about yourself. But then you face it, the ugly taste of rejection. This shatters your confidence in one single blow and you are left with anger, confusion and self doubt. How can this be? You never anticipated just how fragile that big ego of yours was. F.

Attaining success in any capacity does not happen over night. If it was easy, it wouldn’t be as sweet when you finally achieve it. You have to be willing to put in the time and effort and your desire to succeed has to be greater than your desire to breathe. You will face rejection but you will never be able to please everyone and that is true for everything in life. What is important is to develop a thick skin so that you can get back up after you have been torn down. Rejection is not fatal and in the end it will only make you stronger even if you feel very weak at the time.
